Exploiting Fear on Interwebs

Chuck Patterson was SUP surfing with friends one day when two sharks joined them and circled around for 15 minutes. Rather than have the encounter deter them from surfing there again like it would for mortals, he returned to the same place the next day at the same time with a Go Pro HD HERO camera at the end of 10 foot pole.

Bill knows I am irrationally scared of carnivorous sea creatures. Bill knows I spent the last two weeks trying to learn a fetish sport in treacherous waters - even as my heart palpitated and I could feel The Fear™ broadcasting the smell of my dangling legs to all teething animals within a 5-mile radius.

So he sends me this.

Star Trek Movie Footage.

For those of you not in the know: JJ Abrams, creator of modern-day serial masterpieces Lost and Fringe, is releasing a prequel to Star Trek in May 2009. Early on I heard Winona Ryder was cast as Spock's mom, but that's nothing on this still curiouser discovery: Sylar, my favourite unhinged Heroes sometimes-villain, is young Spock.

What am I even supposed to do with that information?!

Comforting FYI: Leonard Nimoy will reprise his role as old Spock. He also did the "Space: the final frontier" voiceover in the trailer (available on the website, linked above, or at the BBC, linked below).

Twitter down for Unplanned maintenance

That's "Unplanned" with a capital U, mister. (More serious than garden-variety unplanned maintenance?) For a moment during loading, I thought they weren't going to use the Failwhale picture -- and I was prepared to freak out like whoa. Couldn't tell you why.

Question to the powers that be: why did this have to happen when I was soliciting aid for my hurt neck?

On Living with a Geek

"Ang, come here. Come listen to my mouse."

I approach the screen. Benj pushes a button. I hear a high-pitched Beep.

"What's that?"

"It's my mouse. Isn't it amazing?" Beep.

"Why would you want it to do that?"

"Don't you remember the modem days?" Beep. Beep. Beep.

"...Yeah." I've got a look on my face that tells him I'm not making the connection.

Benj sighs laboriously. "What was a modem?"

"A modem was a little box that sat by my computer and brought me internet."

"Right. And how did it work?"

"You plugged it into the phone line, and pushed the 'connect' button on AOL, and then you'd hear all kinds of swishy noises."

"Right!" He throws his hands up in the air and smiles triumphantly.

"I still don't get it."

"THIS--" Beep "--is ONE of the sounds from that sequence!"

Pretty Much Because I Can

On a whim and shortly after blogging about it, I decided to move this blog to LIVEandUNCENSORED.com after all.

About-Angela-type stuff will now appear on AngelaNatividad.com.

In two lines I've related news that in execution cost Benj six hours of his life and maybe permanent circuit damage. In exchange for his suffering -- which involved CNAME insanity, cloaking, host-hopping, and a lot of cursing directed mainly at Google but (I suspect) really at me -- I did the dishes.

I'm nice like that.
